BOARD GOVERNANCE

THE BENEDICT FOUNDATION
NONPROFIT BOARD GOVERNANCE SEMINARS

Seminars are open to both new and old board members and are designed to cover in some depth topics that may not necessarily be addressed in board member orientations.

These workshops should be of great interest as well to any persons considering starting their own nonprofit or to anyone who is interested in becoming a board member of a nonprofit.

SESSION I  Nonprofits: Basic Organizational Structure; the role of nonprofits in the community; the importance of missions, bylaws, and conflict of interest policy.

SESSION II  Board Member Requirements and Responsibilities; the board’s role in fulfilling the organization’s purpose and objectives.

SESSION III  Fund Raising and Grants; also Community Relations; Publicity; Volunteers.

SESSION IV  Legal Requirements and Obligations of Boards; also Overseeing programs, staff and volunteers.

Each session will include various handouts including lists of links to online resources.

Please note that because there is continuity throughout and each session builds on information from previous sessions, participants are urged to attend all four sessions. All participants who attend the series of four sessions will be awarded certificates at the completion of the seminar.

Pre-registration is required. For more information and to register, please call the Benedict Foundation at 910 200-2244 or e-mail them at benedictfoundation@att.net

Fee for all four sessions is $45 per person, payable in advance or at the first session. This fee includes folders, handouts and light refreshments.

The Benedict Foundation's Board Governace Seminars are held at the Foundation's Center at 1013 E. Moore St., Southport. This year's seminars will meet on Saturday mornings, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
